When I came to this state as a young woman forty years ago, Alaska was unlike any other place in the country. There were more opportunities for success than any place I had ever been. I believe that it is our duty to guarantee that future generations of Alaskans have access to the same kinds of opportunities.
I have enjoyed a long career in public service, beginning with a four year stint as mayor of the beautiful town of Kodiak in the Gulf of Alaska. In 2004 the voters of Kodiak elected me to serve their interests in the House of Representatives and I spent the next four years doing that, until I left the Alaska State Legislature in 2008. I moved to Anchorage the following year, where I quickly saw that there was more I could do for my new community and so I ran for office. I am happy to be back in Juneau working on behalf of my fellow Alaskans.
I’ve always believed that the best way to represent people is to know them, to understand the concerns and ambitions of the people I live with. Good leaders listen to and learn from the others in their community and I look forward to getting to know more of you and EARNING your trust. I don’t have all the answers, which means it is my mission to hear what you have to say so that together we can build better solutions to the issues facing our community.
We will work alongside each other to make our North and Eastside neighborhoods of Muldoon, Creekside Park and JBER the best places in Anchorage to live, work and play.
